Indie York, an organisation aiming to map out all of the independent businesses in York is now closing in on 200 members.
York is a charming city, attracting more than 7 million visitors per year. One of the many qualities that makes York such a beautiful and vibrant city is the number of independent businesses that can be found amongst the cobbled streets and impressive architecture.
There are currently 186 businesses on the map, with a further 30 on the waiting list for the New Year edition. More than two thirds of businesses in York are independent, so there are plenty more to be made aware of the organisation and to sign up. Indie York don’t just encourage people to shop locally, but to also advise that there are other ways of supporting local businesses, such as supporting them on social media by liking and sharing their posts. 43,000 maps have been distributed in 18 months, so the exposure this map provides for small businesses is quite significant.
Indie York founder, Johnny Hayes is also hoping to organise a festival celebrating independent businesses, and is hoping to put on ‘Independents Day’ on the 4th July next year.
You can find the Indie York Chalet at the St Nicholas Christmas Fair Market on Parliament Street this Christmas. If you are interested in joining, please follow this link and fill in the application form: https://www.indieyork.co.uk/
