Small Business Saturday returns for another year and after last year's campaign being their most successful yet, they're hoping to exceed their expectations again this year and they urge all small businesses to get involved.
Small Business Saturday is a campaign that takes place every year on the first weekend of December, and urges people to support small and local businesses by favouring them over large scale retailers. The day itself is just that, one day, but the campaign runs all year round and encourages small business support, hoping to have lasting impacts on the businesses involved. Last year, an estimated £748 million was spent on the day.
As well as providing a wealth of inspiring stories from other successful businesses, it provides all kinds of free tools for you to use. You can advertise your business on the Small Business Finder for free. You can download logos and marketing packs to use on your own social media and website. They also try their best to like, retweet or give a shout out when you mention them on Twitter, Facebook or Instagram, or use the hashtag #SmallBizSatUK. They have a lot of useful information and resources on starting up a business. Their blog also contains hundreds of posts full of 'how-to's', tips and advice in all areas of running a business, including Accounting, Branding, Marketing, Crowdfunding, Sales etc.
Small Business Saturday also runs a "Small Biz 100" campaign, whereby 100 small businesses are highlighted, one per day for the 100 days leading up to Small Business Saturday. They also create a Small Biz Christmas Gift Guide, which contains a gift list that has been hand-picked and crammed full of fantastically unique and hand crafted gifts on offer from small businesses.
You can search for local businesses on the Small Business Finder, as well as just shopping locally as much as you can! You can also show your support to small businesses by liking and sharing their social media posts. It's also great for small businesses when you post about them and tag them in your own posts, say if you visit their shop or buy a product.
